I don't think that is actually true (irreconsilable differences)

I think that currently, those who are seeking power are doing a good
job at driving that particular wedge (on both sides), I don't think
that for most Americans these things can't be worked out with rational
comprimise.

I think that if you were to ask a good sample of people across
America, the answers they gave to most issues would be pretty close.
Unfortunately, those who thrive on the differences have the most money
and the loudest voice. And the most to lose if people were to "just
get along". And those who report the news also thrive on the chaos.

The current apathy by the center is the real issue. If they would just
combine voting booths with American Idol auditions and sales at
Target, the numbers of voters would skyrocket.
