Everyone is stumped as to where this mess goes from here. The Europeans, who worked very hard and put all their eggs in the negotiation basket, are at their wits end. The Russians are dumbfounded. The Chinese, as usual, are silent but seem like they will block any attempt at meaningful sanctions, which is why the UN path isn't going to work.
Bottom line- everyone needs oil. China more than ever needs oil and Iran looks to become China's best friend in the region. It is in the Chinese interest to prevent any sanctions against Iran. Of course, China will not be getting any oil from Iran if we go to war with them. It's all going to hell from here.
