It's time once again to review the winners of the Annual "Stella Awards." The
Stella Awards are named after 81 year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee
on herself and successfully sued McDonald's (in NM). That case inspired the
Stella Awards for the most frivolous, ridiculous, successful lawsuits in the
United States. Here are this year's winners:

Besides the fact all the listed awardees are bogus, if one is to look into the
Stella Liebeck vs. McDonald's lawsuit. She had a valid case IMHO.

1) The coffee was not just hot (140-150 degrees Fahrenheit) it was insanely hot
(180 - 190 degrees Fahrenheit). That is just short of boiling, and completely
undrinkable, one would burn one's mouth if one tried.

2) She did not spill the coffee, the Styrofoam cup collapsed from the heat when
she tried to add cream and sugar.

3) She didn't just burn herself, she received 2nd and 3rd degree burns of her
abdomen, thighs and genitals requiring surgery.

4) McDonalds and already settled dozens of similar cases out of court, so they
where well aware of the problem, but chose not to change any policies
concerning this matter.

5) The ammount Stella was originally awarded was only 2 days of coffee sales
for McDonalds.

That adds up to a fairly legitamate case to me.
