Netflix has a GREAT anime collection.

"Evangelion" is a very good, cerebral series. It has some mature moments
but nothing horrible.

"Princess Nine" is a fun series (5 or 6 discs) about a girl's baseball team
trying to compete in a boy's league.

Some movies not to miss:

Anything by Mizyaki. "Nausicca and Valley of the Wind", "My Neighbor
Totoro", "Laputa: Castle in the Sky", "Kiki's Delivery Service", "Princess
Mononoke", "Spirited Away", and now "Howl's Moving Castle".

(If you have a thirteen year old girl start with "Kiki's Delivery Service".
It's about a thirteen-year old witch who, in accordance with tradition, must
leave home for a year to train on her own.)

"Grave of the Fireflies" is well done, period tear-jerker.

"Akira" is a classic, not to be missed. "Steamboy" is from the same
director and very good but nearly as resonant in my opinion.

"They Were 11" is a smart space mystery/thriller.

There's a lot more I'm missing I'm sure... but those should be more than
enough to get you started.
