What moron would see that his house is on fire and stay inside the house to
call 911.

When our house caught fire 10 years ago, I was out the door in a heartbeat
and called 911 from next door.

Also, what you can do, like in my cell phone, program the non-911 emergency
lines. Every police and fire department here in So Cal has both 911 and
local emergency lines.

Subject: Vonage 911 Caller Put On Hold While House Burns Down

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/03/vonage_fire.html

"A Minnesota homeowner charges VoIP provider Vonage put him on hold
when he called 911 to report his house was on fire. The home was a
total loss."

I don't have Vonage, so don't know how the 911 service works. This
article makes it sound like they take 911 calls to an operator at
Vonage who then calls the real 911. Is that the case?
