It goes further than that. I have a very good friend, a skinhead, whose a "moderate muslim" of Pakistani descent. Now of course he has never left the US, was born here.
He drinks, sleeps around, gets in brawls, basically he's a regular American guy. Now I say he's not a Muslim. He says, shit I pray 5 times a day, I keep the drinking to a minimum, and I regret it so I'm good. I say, your not a muslim, your just a guy, probably agnostic, but you don't believe in the religion you claim to be a part of. The problem I find with the imaginary moderate muslims is a cultural one. They are Saudi or Yemeni or whatever, and the religion is so much a part of their life and their family and their politics that they can't separate it out, even when they are no longer required to practice. I really think the only way to save large populations of the world is to mimic the Marshall plan. Take the "true believer" types. Kill the bosses for human rights and war crimes violations, put the average believer in a re-education camp to be brought into the 21st century, and let the normal guy go to work like he always does. Aside from that, glass it. Fuck islam before it fucks you. It's a misuse of an old song about fascism, but I see it as very fitting, as most arab nationalist movements were started by, or are based on the national socialist policies of Nazi Germany. -- Timothy Heald Analyst, Architect, Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] W: 202-228-8372 C: 703-300-3911 -----Original Message----- From: Robert Munn [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 28, 2006 1:28 PM To: CF-Community Subject: Re: Finally the questions are asked It is a little surprising to me that the article does not deal with what I think is the root issue here- that the Islamic world is in the middle of a religious civil war, with one side seeking a full return to the literalist interpretation of the Koran, and the other side seeking to push a modernized version of Islam that does not adhere to the literalist interpretation of the Koran. The literalist (fundamentalist) movement is winning in most of the Islamic world, whatever CAIR has to say about the matter. The equivalent in the West would be a return to the Crusades, with the Catholic Church advocating a religious war against the Islamic world. Imagine what CAIR would have to say about that.
