I'm a situational or social mimic so I guess I pick up on this sort of
thing, in Seattle you can tell a native (or convince someone that you
are a native) by the way one pronounces bag, magazine and a few other
similar words.

Both are pronounced with a long A like "cake" or "lake" and they keep
the hard "g" sound.
