i don't think i have a fixed number of dhcp addresses, none of the other computers have had their ip addresses changed, there are only four of them... but i will try what you said...

START --> RUN -- CMD <open> IPCONFIG /RENEW It looks like the IP address was released and not renewed. It sounds like you have a fixed number of DHCP addresses and you have used them all up so one of your other computers stole that address. -----Original Message----- From: Stephenie Hamilton [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2002 10:39 AM To: CF-Community Subject: LAN help needed PLEASE!!! OK, so i have a small LAN setup here at home, so the kids and friends can surf the net while i am online. everything was working fine on thursday, but friday i discovered that one of the systems (win98) could not see the local network, nor get to the internet...after some poking around i discovered that the network card had changed it's ip from the 192.168.0 block to some 169.254 block.... so i figure i will tell it what ip to be...well that system could now see the local network, but still no internet... i had this happen once before and a format and reinstall on the particular system solved the problem, so i did that last night, no luck, the net card still wants to be on the 169.254 block.... now, my system that gives it access to the net is a win2k pro and all the systems run the 192.168.0 block for their net cards... help! i cannot get this card to give up the 169.254 ip address and even when i tell it to use the 192.168.0 block it won't let the system get to the internet... any ideas? please? i am not a network engineer type and have run out of patience and things to try.... ~~ Stephenie _________________________________________________________________ _____ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists ______________________________________________________________________ Macromedia ColdFusion 5 Training from the Source Step by Step ColdFusion http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0201758474/houseoffusion Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
