Probably asked jokingly, but I can actually answer it. I had a girlfriend who smoked clove cigarettes (as did her friends) who I last dated seriously in 1990.
I also have a really nice wool sweater I wore at the time. This fall, when I was wearing the sweater and it got soaked while hiking, I could smell the clove cigarettes (it took a few minutes to remember what the smell was). So the answer is: 15 years AT LEAST.
