It was reported that the official complaint detailed that the people
that started the egg and fruit pelting were wearing the official
badges or patches (the article was unclear) of employees of the mayor
of the town.

Also part of the official complaint, during the "chase" by the
motorcycles, Venezualen police held up the diplomatic car on purpose,
and facilited the chasers by holding traffic after the diplomatic car
had escaped repeatedly to allow the chasers to catch up again.

And the Venezuelan police escorting the convoy did not intervene to
stop the incident, either during the 10 minutes they were being
pelted, or during the chase. And it was not just a chase. The chasers
were hitting the car and windows with fists and unknown objects during
the chase.

As for the US being in the wrong here, Gel, you forgot to mention that
the US "threat" to curtail the freedom of movement of their ambassador
came one day after after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened
to expel U.S. Ambassador William Brownfield over the egg-pelting
incident.
