That gave me some leeway then, because even though Royal Blue is our color, 
and our logo sports a crown (for a king, or "royalty"), I had a hunch that 
our name was taken from the American Royal Livestock Show (Rodeo), which has 
been an annual event in KC for 100 years.

Looking it up....wiki mentions that Kaufman did indeed name his new team 
after the American Royal.

Incidentally, I was actually familiar with the Boston Red Stockings story. 
Though I didn't know it morphed into "Sox" because of lazy newspaper 
reporters.
