I test drove a bunch of them and settled on the Voyager 510: http://www.ixap.com/sti_prodDet.asp?sku=HFGE-UNIV-BTP01 It works well in my car which is not a beater, but it does have an exhaust that's loud enough to trigger the volume control on the radio. Even so, I can still hear fine but I always have the windows up - haven't tried with them down. I looked at ones 4X more expensive and just didn't see a difference that justified the price change. What you may want to look for is one with the highest volume rating as that's your constraint.
