Counts on timing. If spidey gets a web or a fist in before the spell, Gandalf is not getting up. Same with supes. Also, once the spell is cast, it has to hit. Both Spidey and Supes are quite fast and can dodge well. A fast foe can usually beat a slow foe even if the slow foe is strong. An invulnerable foe is a whole other story. A foe with a range attack, especially an energy one (heat vision) is nasty in a fight. A writer will let their creation win even against God because they're the writer. God will win against a writer as seen by Nechie's quote and God's response: "God is dead - Netchie. Netchie is dead - God Look who wins in the end"
