I meant that it contains news clips, not that it *is* one. I realized yesterday 
that we were talking at cross-purposes, and that this wwas probably due to 
inordinate terness on my part ;)

The bit with the President is a clip from a news show, yes? Now if I were to 
hear that the clip had been heavily edited, or actually referred to someone 
else, that would be a different story.

I think my objection to "smear" is that it implies that there is something 
untrue being said. Personally, I think not, though I'll grant you that "stole 
Congress" is not exactly emotion-free language. 

I'm pretty burned out of the political threads here too... I think politics are 
important, but if nobody changes their mind or learns anything, what is the 
point?
