To begin, I just want to say, I am pro-choice, kinda. I'm also not remotely religious in the least. I'm an agnostic.
I was raised in the Catholic Church. It is a sin to have an abortion, and it is a sin to support abortion, according to church doctrine. It's is equivalent to murder. So yes, I can say honestly that I could never understand a pro-choice catholic. Or a pro gay catholic. Now I don't understand why the Catholic Church defend and hide the pedo priests either.
