The Taliban needed to be shut down, but I don't think Shrub ever had
any kind of strategy for getting bin Laden like he did for getting
Saddam.

As for Iraq, it is a mess for sure.  I suspect if we wait for a stable
government to replace Saddam, we may be there for many, many years.  I
also suspect the next president will find himself with many of the
same problems that Nixon did in trying to end the Vietnam war.
Impossible demands on all sides, and way too many people dying.
