If 'by hand' means hands on the throttle of the bobcat, then yes :) Actually, we were digging through the pad dirt that was pretty much a rock! I had to water the site for about 6 hours before it turned to a clay. The bobcat couldn't even scratch the surface. We double teamed it with a tiller on the back of the tractor and the bobcat scooping out the loose soil.
