If the page has a job to do then I withdraw my rant (well... sorta, I still stand by my comments but they no longer apply). What you won't see much of anymore are "splash" pages or "landing" pages: pages whose sole function is to regal the user with a big picture and/or animation with the name of the company and a "click here to continue" link.
