There actually isn't a wifi card in the device, so there isn't a
software hack. However, there is a program that unlocks the ability
to use the phone as a modem for a laptop. I bought it right after I
got the phone. Essentially requires you to plug the phone into your
laptop via USB, then you can hop on EVDO from your laptop for fast
internet access from anywhere (within EVDO areas).

I dunno what I'd use the wifi card for really. I use infared to
update my contacts / calendar from my laptop and my office
calendar/outlook syncs via EVDO link to our company's exchange server.
I also POP mail from several accounts over EVDO. If I did all this
over wifi I'd have to be in range of my wifi base to get that to work,
which isn't of much use to me. I mean - it's a mobile device after
all, if I am near my wifi station, I am also near my desktop/laptop
and don't need internet access via my 700.

The only drawback I have found for this so far is that I can't get VPN
working over the EVDO link. I haven't tried too hard yet though - I
might get it working still.
