Do they teach that the US invaded after the impressments?

Ours don't claim that Canada is a colony, in-fact they really don't
mention the affiliation between the two that much as far as the present
tense goes. As far as back then, it was mostly referred to as British
North America.

IIRC, the US did gain a minimal amount of land around Maine. And the
British finally accepted that the US was in fact a sovereign nation,
which was a big part of what the US was looking for.

The British felt the impressment of American Citizens was more along the
lines of a draft; they saw them as British Subjects.

The British were the ones that offered a peace treaty; and offered to
recognize the US, and to stop encroaching on American Territories in the
north, and to stop funding Indian Raiding parties.

This is what was taught in our books.
