When we moved from Boston to Scranton our estimate for moving was over $10,000 - they estimated that the books were half of that. So I rented a U-Haul, packed up all the books (and comics... 24 long boxes) and moved just them myself. Carrying them down three flights, driving them 500 miles and carry them into the new house makes you damn well appreciate things. ;^) But in the end the final moving cost for the rest of the stuff was actually well under $4,000. We've actually gotten rid a huge number in the past few years (I've pushed to collect as many as can as eBooks and now that the kids are both getting a little older we're slowly getting rid of the hundreds of "baby books" that we've collected).
