See, I guess that is what screwed me up.

For me, a hammer is not a tool, it is a class of tools.

A coopers hammer is a tool.
A ball-peen hammer.
A framing hammer (22 oz, of course)
A claw hammer
A roofing hammer
A drywall hammer

That doesn't even get into mallets or jacks (sledges) or marking hammers

If you asked for a hammer in our family, you would get a blank stare
while they waited for the rest of the request.

Heck, my brother-in-law has an 8 drawer Craftsman rolling chest with
nothing but hammers and such.
