Oh, that and because our leaders have convinced us that "clean" surgical strikes can win a war so that ground campaigns and actual casualties are the exception rather than the rule in modern combat. You, of course, know differently; but until these last two incursions, that is what our government has promised and the media has delivered...please note, this was even tried with Iraq with the announcement that "major combat operations had ceased."
