And your remark, in turn, is unfair to "the mid-west states".

Kansas City had a black mayor for years. When he decided to move on, we
didn't vote him in as governor...we sent him to Congress. For years our most
outspoken and respected civic leaders have been black. Nobody really thought
anything of it.

A white governor is no more indicative of racial segregation than a black
governor is indicative of racial integration.
