There is tremendous potential for breakthroughs in the treatment of diseases, genetic defects, even aging.
On the other hand, the tools will exist to create diseases that can target a particular group of people based on common genetic markers. There is speculation that you could even target individuals families with genetically engineered diseases. At the end of the day, science is science, it is neither good nor evil. What people do with it, that's another story.
