I wondered that too.  My DVD player actually has rewind built into the 
eject functionality.  Ith appens so fast it's barely noticable, but 
every time I eject the DVD, it always starts from the beginning when It 
put it back in!

I know it must be rewinding, because when when I stop in the middle of a 
movie, if I push play again it usually starts right back up where I left 
off.  So it *MUST* be rewinding when I eject!  (or when I power cycle)
