But WHEN was that? 23 years ago? Things have changed in the country. And many Republicans have made a career out of pursuing sex scandals. Also, Studds did not (afaik) campaign on "family values", and at the time, the Democratic party was in control of Congress, and felt they could get away with anything. There was definitely some slack cut him (at the time), for being gay, and admitting it, which was fairly new at the time.
