I came to the same conclusion, but I'm not necessarily willing to say he sucks and should be destroyed because of his mistake.
However, he should apologize profusely and be as contrite and humble as possible about his mistake. Instead, he's trying to sound even MORE aggressive against the republicans who are running with his foul up. Be contrite, explain the situation, say you phucked up....and that'd be the end of it. By continuing to be combative he's giving the republicans even more fodder. Even dems are asking him to please STFU.
