Many/most of you have probably heard about the "Duke Lacrosse case".. where 3 duke lacrosse players (read: rich, white) allegedly raped a black stripper at a party they hired her to perform at. The woman in question is a local, attending NC Central University. Both here in Durham, North Carolina.
The DA, Mike Nifong, has been taking a lot of heat for "over publicizing" the case, having press conferences, etc.. Detractors say he hasn't got a case and he's using the case to win the election (he was originally appointed to the position of district attorney). Mr. Nifong is a rich white lawyer in a county with a fairly strong black majority. I'm not saying anything here about the guilt or innocence of the 3 men charged with the rape, I'll let the jury decide that. Anyway, yesterday - with cameras rolling - Mr. Nifong attempted to shake hands with Bob Harris, long time "voice of the Blue Devils", and Harris refused. When Nifong said "This isn't about Duke", Harris replied "No, it's about honest, and YOU'RE NOT HONEST" I love it! Way to not be a political prop, Mr. Harris. You don't like Mr. Nifong, and you don't agree with his politics, so why should you stoop to shaking his hand in the nature of being polite and not causing a stir.
