When in England, never refer to England as a European country. You will be
corrected swiftly, and possibly rudely. About the only time the English are
rude, near as I could tell.

England is an island. It's not part of Europe.  Or so they say.

What part of England is Europe in again?  :)

In Europe, countries are much smaller and closer together...  similar in a
way to US states.  I would be surprised if people in Europe didn't know
things about their close neighbors.  It's also likely that the farther north
you go in the US, the more people will know about Canada, the farther to the
southwest, the more they will know about Mexico.
