My company is big into Six Sigma. As far as I can tell, the way to get a
Black Belt is to go through the training and actually do a Six Sigma project
that results in tangible cost savings for the company. The number I've heard
is minimum $100K in savings to qualify for Black Belt, but I have no idea if
that's a hard number or not.

If you Google Six Sigma Black Belt training you'll find all sorts of places
that offer the training and certification, and you don't necessarily need
the savings project to be done at your company in order to get certified.

My impression is that the way to make big money doing this stuff is to do
one or two big savings projects to hang your hat on, then shop yourself
around as a Black Belt consultant to the highest bidder. Mostly you are
looking at big companies (manufacturing, retail, logistics) as potential
clients, so it helps to have some experience and domain knowledge in that
area. I don't know if any of the big online businesses have gotten into Six
Sigma or not.
