I also think it would be pretty disingenuous to appoint a republican to
replace a democrat, and vice versa. The people of your state voted in a
Senator based on his ideas....the governor SHOULD strive to appoint a
replacement senator who holds similar ideas.

It won't happen of course, but that's how I feel about it.
