Not so much with ColdFusion (my learning enviroment with CF was giuded by a few good developers), but I mostly do .NET and Java programming (maybe 20 percent CF anymore) and I have seen the same type of thing when looking at some of the older (we are talking 1.1 here) code I wrote that seem to over complicate things a little, and I can see that my whole understanding of inheritance was pretty weak, but it looked good at the time.
