Nope. Not I.
What are your feelings on "fair use".
> Does posting these snippets of a program constitute "fair use"?
For stuff that costs money, I agree with the snippet part. There's volumes
of
stuff already about what constitutes fair use. Not that it's "all good"--
indeed, as far as SW and such goes, Fair Use is still a hot item + needs a
good bit of reform. But so long as shows like the simpsons and south park
et al are running, and not getting sued outta existence, we're at least o.k
...
So the whole kit and kaboodle doesn't constitute fair use, but enough to
"get the point across" or however fair use is worded sounds kosher.
That's with controlled media tho-- I've always had a problem with the fact
that open air stuff can't be recorded, etc.. Funny that things are leaning
toward open source ness. I'm talking T.V. shows, now available to anyone
at any time. (I hate the idea of degraded quality tho. That's BS! (anyone
seen that crap MS is trying to put in Vista about/for DRM? Ludicrous!))
Does the press have the right to offer such content, without copyrights, in
> the interest of public disclosure?
I say yeah. Such content. They are beaming this crap through our skulls,
people. Literally, through our skulls. Using "our" air. <-- That somehow
has
been usurped. Yet "they*" want even more.
*the bad guys =-P
The big, evil guys need to get screwed. The small, little, or good guys
need
to get unscrewed. Too bad we can't do both at the same time. If that makes
sense. What I mean is this crap will never be perfect, and will be argued
for
all time, prob'ly -- but right now things are just way to lopsided in the
direction
of the big evil groups vs. the "common man" (no sexist intent, chixerz! ;)
Are bloggers "the press"?
What the hell is the press, really? I guess it's nice to be official, and
have
one of those badges (badges? we don't need no stink'n badges!) for some
stuff, but come on [insert southpark "come on" bit]!
The current administration in the white house has been a shameful display
of how bad it can get. Media needs to be free-- hehe-- in more ways than
one. Really. Money and power have gotten so wrapped up in the whole
deal people have forgot what "the press" was all about. Or maybe not.
The press got big with yellow journalizm anywhaze, neh? Hrm...
Anyways, more props to PBS, if you ask me- for many, many things. Not
just the open sourcing of the programming (AWESOME!), but the damn
kick ass programming too! Thank god!
<side rant>
I keep seeing these posts "how unfair-- the reporting is on the war,
it's only the bad stuff, etc.."
Which I can't help but think "BS!".
Out of curiosity (I really wonder), how many other wars have had PR
firms? Have had such interference by the tail trying to wag the dog?
Was I the only one listening when democracy now, etc., exposed how
fucked up the media had gotten? How involved big money and big
interests (including government) had gotten in something they have
no business whatsoever being involved in?
Was I the only one who was totally pissed at how the white house
treated the "press"? From the begin'n, not just since things went
south for the bastards (which is forcing them to take a new attitude
with the press, btw. Despicable flip flop there. Arrogant bastards!)
Things were worse in the beginning, and I mean documentedly
worse, but /now/ people complain about bias??? WTF.
Remember the WTO protests, war protests, election fraud stuff...
bin ladle's family being FLOWN OUT OF THE US WHILE THE V.P
IS THINKING WE'RE* SHOOTING DOWN DOMESTIC FLIGHTS!?!?
*well, he thought he had, actually [apparently? ;]. No royal we there.
How is this stuff not newsworthy? And that's RIGHT HERE, not in
some far away desert. Desert... the sandy thing, not the after dinner
treat. Bah.
These shows exposing how badly the American People were led
around by the nose have gott'n me all riled up. I can't believe the
ugly truths are coming out already*. Maybe we do have a chance to
show these f*ckers the in side of a Court.
*in the main stream. -This is all old news to "indy" listeners.
[re: shows: the path to 9/11, etc..]
These bastards did all they could to get rid of transparency in the
government, media, etc... and got cheered on for it!!! Insane!!! Spy
on your own people, and think you are justified!?!? And no outcry?
No collective "hey, that's bad"? RANT RANT RANT[1]
Oh, but now the press is biased. Pfffft! WAKE UP! WE'RE ASLEEP
AT THE WHEEL!!!
[1] I'm well aware this is a spiral we've been in for years- long before
the current butt-caps came into power- but this last bit was outrageous!
I mean, we bent over for it- at least as seen on T.V. ;]
</side rant>
I hope this one goes the distance, that the blogger gets some backing, and
> that he wins.
>
> What say you?
Hellz-yeah. They're putting this crap out where the chill'nz can hear it.
The
wee-little ones! It's deplorable. And it ain't cable folks! Look at the
precedent
people like Rush and Pat are setting!!! Fookers need to get some type of
rating, and be kept out of reach, like pr0n.
Bringing this crap out into the light should be applauded. If it was an
entire
HBO special, well, I'd have more qualms about it, but this was open air.
*sigh* same old same old. Hurt 'em in the pocket book, and they try to
wipe you out. (That's what brought the furry, neh? Don't give me this fake-
ass "copyright" type crap. Perfect example of what's been allowed to run
rampant. It's always there, but I mean this crap has gotten RAMPANT with
the current crop of ass-mongers.) I want to shoot myself whenever I think
about how lame the general populace has gotten. But then I just blame
some one else.
SEP field at full force Zaph! why come it no go away???
Yup. Get involved, "Just Do It", etc., ad nauseousness.
Yes, well, at least I'm bitching about it. Bitch bitch bitch. Wooters!!!
My Public Awareness time served, it's back to typing for profit.
