I don't think so, online forums only work for those who participate, and
actually read the posts, and can take along time to do so, just look at
this list as an example.

In the class room an instructor can call on students that aren't
actively participating in the current topic, and everybody hears what is
going on, including the tone of the speaker. Things you just can't do
online, yet.
