Not sure there is going to be a winner this time around. The studios and
electronics companies don't stand to lose big money in a format war.

I think people will end up buying multiple players, or a hybrid player,
or a gaming system that supports one format, and buying the player for
the other format.

I mean we are talking about high quality, not just general advancement
in technology.

The VHS/Beta battle won about because Sony was the only company pushing
Beta, like the Mini-Disc, it failed. This time around Sony went out and
got studio support, and partnered with other manufacturers to get the
thing going.

In the end HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will be here, and the real looser is us.
This isn't a battle for the best product, it is a battle for our money.

These items are being marketed towards the same people that already
spent $2k for the TV and will spend $90 for a 3ft cable with gold leads
because they think that it will make a difference.

I'm pretty happy about HD-DVD because I can get a player for only a
couple hundred bucks and hook it up to the xbox I already have. I've
seen some HD stuff I've downloaded from the xBox live marketplace and it
is pretty cool, so I'm very much looking forward to it.
