Thanks!

The first ultrasound was done at 6 weeks to confirm pregnancy and get actual
conception dates based on size of the fetus, etc. We saw the heartbeat and
everything was fine. My wife had some unusual spotting in the week following
the first ultrasound and went back at 8 weeks to ensure everything was ok.
The doctor performed a second ultrasound for our benefit really... while he
knew the spotting was not uncommon, it had my wife pretty worried. Our next
ultrasound appointment is in 3 weeks at which point we will find out the sex
(if we want) and if the baby is growing as expected (no extra limbs, etc).

Usually only two ultrasounds are done (at least two is the norm with our
doctor): one between 6 and 8 weeks and then another mid-way through. I know
that when my mom was pregnant with me and my sister (twins) she had 2
ultrasounds, but only 1 with my other two sisters. My wife's mother had only
1 for each of her 5 kids. I guess the norm today is two. The images,
especially the 4D ones, are incredible. GE not only makes awesome bombs,
they make cool ultrasound machines! LOL
