That's why I suggested looking for one with the lifetime subscription on Ebay. That means you just hook it up and use the service as long as the box is working, with no cost. That's what I have myself actually, all my Tivos have had lifetime subscriptions. Unfortunately they discontinued this option, guess they don't make enough money off of it even though the cost for getting it was $300! But if you want a cheap Tivo, you can often find a series 1 Tivo on ebay with the lifetime sevice for around $100. They don't have a ton of space, but should be more than enough for someone with limited channels.
