Robert,

Your reminding me that Indian women also wear these helped me find pictures of 
it, along with a description of how it's attached (to the hair with a small 
hook).  It's transliterated a number of ways, but "maang tikka" is what they 
call it in India.  Now maybe I can find what the Roman's called it.
