I will take an earthquake over a tornado any day. I watched too many communities get wiped out from Tornadoes, and I got to see first hand what happens when a tornado rips through a large city like Fort Worth. Not pretty. At least in an earthquake (which I have been in many) you have a good chance of your house still being there.
And let me tell you, Texas has their fair share of shit. Besides the tornadoes, they get ice storms, they have high speed chases, shootings, murders, gangs, floods. And we all know about the South (Florida, Mississippi and Louisiana come to mind). And let's not forget about the nice blizzards in the North and East. And I believe that I have read in the news about gangs and high speed chases in these regions too. And I also seem to have heard something about he murder capitol of the US being somewhere in the East (DC I believe). Anyway, there is no real perfect place to live, but we all love our states we hail from (most anyway) and thus we make the best of it all.
