Because their personal opinions generally run counter to the Republican Party....and thus a republican speaking against the party is more likely to be in-line with their opinions...and thus the "gaga".
I almost always like it when a politician breaks rank, as it's almost always because they disagree with some position of that party which is already evident to the other side, as well as to the majority of independents......like...when a Lib suggests a spending cut instead of a tax hike, or when a conservative wonders why gay marriage is such a big deal.
