It does depend on what you agreed too, however.

Many "Business" software licenses contain clauses that allow the vendor to
audit your use.  IBM has certain clauses like this in much of their high-end
software as does, I believe, Oracle, MS and others.

And as we all know if you installed the software then you agreed to the
clause.

Now, whether or not such a clause is, itself, legally binding - who knows?
