I had good luck with one of those "guitar for dummies" books-- course, it's all gone again, but, well, that's how it goes. I actually used to be able to read sheet music. Not anymore. If you've got a PDA, there are some pretty good apps for tabulature, or whatnot-- learn to play just about anything, like paint by number.
