In the end, while it wasn't in the treaty, the americans gained some land in
Maine and around the great lakes.

The Declaration of War was made because of British ships blocking trade with
Europe and impressing American sailors and merchants into service against the
French.

The Americans invaded Canada to gain land, and because they thought the people
of lower and upper Canada would join and they could get easy land.

When were the Americans Pushed back to washington? At the end of the war the
Americans and the British were basically in a stalemate along the border.

The burning of Washington was done by a raiding party that came from the
mediteranian after the Napolean wars were over, that group went to Baltimore
where the Americans had fortified because they thought that is where the
british were coming pushed the britih back to the sea. The british tried to
attack Baltimore from the sea, but that failed, and the poem about that later
became the national anthem

what territory did they gain again? Maybe it's me, but I don't
remember that part.

What I learned, and still appears to me to be true, is that the US
invaded Canada. Unsuccessfully. Britain won because it didn't lose
what it was defending. The US lost because it invaded Canada (as a
result of its treaty with France, by the way) and was repudidated,
then had its but kicked all the way back to Washington.

Things were a little messier around the great lakes though -- perhaps
the territory in question is Belle Isle or something?

 ;P
