"The state run university should not have a position, but professors
should be able to have an opinion on ANYTHING and voice it."

Nobody said they can't voice their opinions. However, there is a time
and place for everything. Certainly, outside the classroom they can
say anything they want. Inside the classroom, while one is at work,
is a different story.

Hell, it wouldn't even bother me if they gave their opinion in the
classroom if it was an appropriate class and as long as they gave
equal time to opposing opinions, which doesn't happen a lot. I have
personally seen professors verbally abuse student who disagree with
the opinion being stated. Of course, you can't verify grading issues
since many grades are subjective, but I have seen students with
opposing views make grades far below people who agree with the state
opinion for no obvious reason to me (again, it is subjective so I
can't say for sure it was the opinion).

It's hard to teach critical thinking when only one side of an issue is
being given.

Also, one needs to look at the subject. In a political science class,
it may be more appropriate for a professor to give his take on things.
In a calculus class, it shouldn't be tolerated.

Notice that no one has mention political ideas yet, which is good.
