>From what I've heard... and it may not be true at all - this isn't a
commercial for the PS3 per se, but rather for some new service coming TO the
PS3 - probably "PS HOME".

The rumor (at this point really loosely kept secret) is that the PS3 will be
host to a new social networking system.

The idea, as I've heard it, is kind
"Mii's-meets-myspace-meets-animal-crossing-meets-HD". You'll get some kind
of "room" or "house" and can build an avatar of some kind (presumably using
input from the EyeToy or whatever - the term "not cartoony" is being thrown
around).

The avatar would be passed to your friends list and represent you in games
(this whole system would be required for future PS3 games). Your house
would be decorated with "awards" or "prizes" earned in games (think
achievements).

(I'm veering off into conjecture somewhat now.)

So instead of just getting a "100 kills" achievement in "Resistance" you
might get an actual trophy or sculpture of some kind with which you can
decorate your "home". Friends can "come over" and see your loot and
interact via voice and video messaging.

It's all very fuzzy and Sony hasn't said a damn thing, but the rumor seems
very strong based on some recent activity and slipped comments.

So... considering that: this commercial (it's really just a teaser - it's
not meant to describe or sell anything, just get people watching - which we
just did) makes a little more sense. All those different people which
different lives being connected (sorta) by circumstances.

The OTHER rumor I've heard about this is that it actually represents a new
media download service coming with the European launch. The idea here is
more basic that the PS HOME idea - really just a video download service.

You could download Sony movies, TV Shows, etc and watch them. This is of
course something that's coming so it might be that.

Again the add makes a little more sense with this: all those different
"shows" available together makes for an explosive, exciting time!

In the end I actually kind of like the stupid little movie... but I have no
idea what it's trying to say. At the point I don't think that matter tho' -
nobody is supposed to know yet.
