Nothing like firing a couple rounds from a .50 BMG! :) -----Original Message----- From: Adam Churvis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 10:31 AM To: CF-Community Subject: Re: now that's a rifle!
I've been a big fan of Barrett Rifles and Ronnie Barrett in particular for years. I'm probably getting the M99 relatively soon. I keep a live .50 BMG cartridge on my desk to remind me every day. :) My younger son wants to train for long distance shooting, so I had my competition jacket reconditioned and passed it down to him, along with my shooting glasses. The glasses are the exact same original model worn by Rod Steiger in "Heat Of The Night." Very cool, and that particular tint of yellow does a surprising job of clarifying the target. They're both family heirlooms in a way because of all the history behind them, so it's kind of a rite of passage. I told him that he has to weigh at least 125 pounds and really bulk up his shoulder area before he can fire a .50 BMG, but he should be there soon. If any of you are interested, once I'm kitted up I'll look into setting up a gathering where interested parties can join us for a day of shooting the M99 on a 1000-yd known / 2000-yd unknown range (the targets at the 1000-yd line are marked as such, but targets beyond that point and up to the effective range of 2000 yards are not marked for distance, so it comes down to knowing how to judge distance and weather conditions, set windage and elevation, etc). Ammo runs about two bucks a shot these days.
