I was actually amazed at how cheap they've gotten.

I've had two 18.1" LCDs for many years. I got them after a nice side job
and they were very cheap (for the time) at $600 each.

Well - one of them finally gave up the ghost last week - a lamp blew - and I
started looking for two more.

I couldn't afford top of the line - in any case my old ones were fine and
they were nowhere near top of the line even when new. Pretty much anything
would better them.

After a lot of looking I actually went brick and mortar. Using a sale and a
"10% off $100 or more" card at Circuit City I got two 22" widescreen LCDs
(by Acer, 1680x1050 res, no extras) for around $550 total.

Still expensive, yes - but nothing NEAR what I thought I'd be spending.

The 22" widescreen (16:10 ratio) is about the same height as my old 18" (4:3
ratio) but about 4" wider. Although these have a much smaller bezel (my old
ones had a 2" bezel - these are less than a 1/2").

In general everything is just a tad larger and I've got more desktop space -
3360x1050 pixels worth!

And, because they've declared Remote Desktop a security breach I'm stuck
working on my 1024x768 laptop screen all night. ;^)
