Because, surprise!, Gonzo lied. It would seem Gonzo is more concerned than you; especially his Chief of Staff who resigned yesterday. It's kind of Libby-Trial all over again. Top administration officials blatantly lied and people resigned because they were REALLY concerned. Well, probably because Gonzo and Justice Dept officials lied, and then tried to use new Patriot Act provisions to skip Senate confirmation: (1.) The Lies: "Emails between White House aides and Attorney General Gonzales's chief of staff show an orchestrated effort to fire several U.S. attorneys, counter to Mr. Gonzales's assertions that the firings weren't instigated by the White House. " "The documents released yesterday are the latest explanations from Justice Department officials of what Mr. Gonzales once described as an "overblown personnel matter." The initial reason cited for the removal of the federal prosecutors was normal turnover. Then, the department said all but one of the attorneys fired were poor performers. The prosecutors, most of whom are Republicans, subsequently spoke out to defend their reputations." (2.) The abuse of power for no reason: "In a discussion of whether Mr. Griffin should be referred to as "interim" U.S. attorney, Mr. Sampson [who resigned Monday] adds that the department would use Mr. Griffin's appointment as a "test drive" of the attorney general's authority under new portions of the Patriot Act to make U.S. attorney appointments for unlimited periods of time, without Senate approval."
