Of course. He was fired for political reasons, which is within Presidential bounds, except Gonzo lied about it to the American people and Congress (which may be illegal). Further he tried to use the Patriot Act to give USAs unlimited appointments w/o congressional approval. That doesn't sound like a good idea to me, and sounds like an abuse of power. Back to Iglesias, the icing on the cake is that Justice said they'd give him a reference!! -------------------------------- Former New Mexico U.S. Attorney David Iglesias hasn't been happy about his forced resignation from the Justice Department. "This episode came like a thief in the night,'' he said at a press conference on his last day in office in February. "Obviously, I tripped some wire.'' And he told Congress that he felt under pressure from New Mexico's Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson, both Republicans, to speed indictments against Democrats before last November's election. Both lawmakers say they called Iglesias but have denied pressuring him, and the Justice Department says that none of the recently dismissed prosecutors were ousted for political reasons. Emails released today indicate some political considerations. On Dec. 7, the same day Iglesias was asked to resign, Deputy White House Counsel William K. Kelley sent an email to Kyle Sampson, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales's chief of staff (who got the boot Monday for his role in the firings) wrote: "Domenici's COS [chief of staff] is happy as a clam and will get us names forthwith.  " Sampson replied: "Great. Sen. Kyl [Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona] is fine. Is OPA [White House Office of Political Affairs] calling the political leads in CA, WA, and MI? We will commence calling the USAs [U.S. Attorneys] in the next hour or so." A week later, Sampson sent an email to Monica Goodling, Justice's liaison with the White House on political appointees: "fyi, WH [White House] wants this guy for NM USA [New Mexico U.S. Attorney]. But Domenici is not so sure. supposedly, Domenici is going to send over names tomorrow (not even waiting for Iglesias' body to cool)." The emails also show Iglesias trying to remain friendly with his Washington bosses. In a January email, he asked Sampson if he could list Gonzales as a reference. "As you know, I'll be resigning in the next month or so and am looking for a job," he wrote. "Please let me know if he consents. Thanks." Sampson's reply was equally cordial: "David, I am well thank you. You can list the AG as a reference  not a problem. Good luck!"
